Tameka Heath-Harding is a young professional from Jamaica who exudes all of the qualities of an aspiring success. Falling within the age range that would classify her as a millennial, she holistically redefines the often-negative stereotype suffered by that generation.
Tameka can be beautifully summarized by one of her favorite quotes by Mahatma Gandhi, “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Serving others has been one of Tameka’s guiding forces. She names her time as the Guild Humanities Society Education Representative as her proudest accomplishment because she values the profound impact she was able to enact during that period.
In only sixth form, she was the pioneer behind a youth program called Inter-School Youth Help Program. The vision behind this was to help young individuals get a head start into their aspired careers. Though this did not take off as she’d hope, she dreams that one day she would be fortunate enough to resume this project.
Tameka is an ardent supporter of education and learning; both theory and practical because she understands that experience grants a significant advantage when you transition from school life to real-world working life. As someone who has endured the disappointment of not flourishing in the field, she specializes in, due to a lack of credited work experience; she wishes to change this dynamic for persons leaving school so there are more opportunities for them thereafter.
Failure has always been one of her biggest fears because as she describes it, it can be traumatizing. However, it does not have an adverse effect on her adamance to make a positive change. The rough patch in her life has brought the social problem of unemployment in the Caribbean to her attention and has helped to lead her on this inspiring journey.
Aside from her professional and humanitarian pursuits, Tameka is also a married, soon-to-be mother who cherishes a life of self-care and family time. She is mostly close with her loving husband and sister and claims that they are the only two people who know her to her core.
She loves being silly and appreciates persons who make her feel comfortable enough to display her less than serious side. She describes herself as mostly introverted but does have a tendency to be enthralled by social interactions.
Though she is relatively religious, she recognizes the undeniable pattern that astrology reveals in the different zodiac groups. This indicates her rational personality that nothing is black or white. This translates into her belief that whilst a person may possess admirable traits it does not deem them neither “good” or “bad”. Therefore, she admits that no one should be put on a pedestal, resulting in her mindset of not having a role model. She believes that this may cause people to be easily influenced by the ideologies of others and not realize the importance of independent and original thought.
This is just a minor insight into the essence of who Tameka is as she definitely is more than can be put into words but; ultimately, in the words of Tameka Heath-Harding, “I’m simply a Passionate, Open, Fun-Loving Person”.
