“I know how hard life can be without proper education. My mother worked a low-income job for 22 years to provide for my brother and myself.”
Racquel Hutchinson is an Art Major that considers children’s nonchalant behaviour towards our educational system a social problem lacking recognition within our society. She is a graduate of Edna Manley College Of The Visual and Performing Arts, passionate about achieving her life goals, and believes having a stable educational base contributes significantly.
Born on February 5th, 1994, Racquel grew up in the Silent Hills of Manchester. Her mother serves as her source of inspiration, as she worked tirelessly for years to provide for the Artist and her brother, this is where Racquel’s passion for having an education stems, her mother’s strength and sacrifice. It motivates her to make the best out of every opportunity that arises.
That gained strength gets tested every day as Racquel tries to figure out what it means to be a Theater practitioner in a global pandemic. The traditional jobs provided for the theatre are limited in Jamaica due to several factors: like lack of demand within the art. But her mother’s determination for them to have a more promising future allowed Racquel to focus on her goals and how to achieve them.
As a child living in a single-parent household, television had always been a big part of the performer’s life. Her childhood dream stems from her favorite television show, “Royal Palm Estate” and watching the local news. The graduate was fascinated by the actors’ ability to immerse themself into their roles and charmed by our local news anchors.
This entrepreneurial spirit and ambitious personality are traits that have her dedicated to getting on the big screen. In whatever direction her career path may lead, whether acting or journalism, in five years Ms. Hutchinson’s goal is to be published and living comfortably within her career.
