A confident and radiant Carla Minto-Drummonds from the Loyalty Department was crowned Miss Flagship 2018 to thunderous applause, in a glittering ceremony at the Conference Centre, Sandals Montego Bay on Friday evening.
From the moment she took the stage, Carla had the audience eating out of her hands, with her intelligence, grace, and charm and when the master of ceremonies, Dahlia Harris announced her as the winner, the place literally erupted.
“I am feeling so blessed to be crowned Miss Flagship, this is indeed a dream come true, “ Carla gushed shortly after being sashed and crowned by Sandals Montego Bay General Manager, Carl Beviere and Hotel Manager, Dawn Smith.
The new queen, who also won the prize for the Most Talented Contestant, received a 6-day, 5-night stay for 2 at any overseas Sandals property inclusive of airfare; a Sandals Corporate University Scholarship-Course Certification from the American Hospitality Educational Institute, $25,000 and a smart television set, among other prizes.
First runner-up was Kerri-Dee Johnson from the front office, another crowd favourite, who was also adjudged the Most Aware Contestant. Her prizes included a 4-day, 3-night stay at any local Sandals property, $10,000 and a microwave.
Placing third was Jessica Riley from The Red Lane Spa, another popular contestant and the winner of the People’s Choice Sectional Award. She received a day pass for 4 at any Beaches/Sandals local property, a toaster oven, $5000 and a gift certificate from Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records.
Other sectional prize winners were: Best Smile, Shandell Buchanan; Most Congenial – Jessica Riley; and Best Recycled outfit Trishanna Coleman
One of the highlights of the contest was the section featuring Recycled Wear, where contestants exceeded expectations with a sensational array of creations, ranging from plastic cups, straws, newspapers and garbage bags. The audience erupted at the unveiling of each design, with the dress made from plastics and plastic cups by Trishanna Coleman a thing to behold.
Contestants appeared on stage in casual, sports, recycle and evening wear. They displayed intelligence and poise during their introductions, while the top five finalists equipped themselves quite well in answering questions posed by the master of ceremonies.
Dahlia was in immaculate comedic form, as her rib-tickling barbs had the audience in stitches during the course of the evening.
Entertainment in the form of excellent dance and song was provided by the team from Sandals Montego Bay, while the event was coordinated by The Sandals Montego Bay Sport and Social Club.
