Grammy-award-winning songwriter and singer MediSun has liberated ‘Hands Off’ a deeply soulful chant against the exploitation of women. The track is the second release off the aptly named ‘Mash Down Riddim’ from the home of Zion I Kings Productions. ‘Mash Down’ is the 9th installment in the Zion I Kings’ Riddim series and is a modern, ‘funkified’ and driving take on the vibes that Sly & Robbie and Black Uhuru brought in the roots reggae heydays of the late 70’s and early 80’s sound, laced with the modern, ‘HD Roots’ sounds of today.

‘Hands Off’ is the second release off the ‘Mash Down’ Riddim with Lloyd Brown’s ‘Forward’ being the first. It was inspired by Medisun’s 100 day journey in Africa back in 2019. “I had the honor of being introduced to a community called “Machakos” outside of Nairobi, Kenya. The women of the community treated me like a son and I will never forget that experience.” He said. “Upon my return to the west, the pandemic struck and I began to see the reports of the widespread child pregnancies that were impacting the community as schools were closed and economic opportunities were slim to none for struggling families during the lockdown. 4,000 girls, as young as 9 years old, turned up pregnant in a 5 month period in 2020. While some of these girls’ parents were/are complicit in their exploitation, those who would take advantage of vulnerable youths ought to be targeted and neutralized by any means necessary.”

‘Hands Off’ from the Mash Down Riddim project is out NOW and available via all DSPs. Tracks from Akae Beka, Lutan Fyah, Clatta Bumboo, Pressure Busspipe, The Movement, and Blakkamoore whose track ‘Mash Down Georgetown’ is an ode to his homeland of Guyana and serves as the title track.
